Protection of Intellectual Property
The Spark Award will be awarded each year for the most promising invention. The first ceremony took place on March 29, 2012 (Spark Award 2012).
In addition to research and teaching, the remit of ETH Zurich also extends to the commercial exploitation of research results. The aim of such exploitation is to maximize revenues for the Swiss economy and assure a flow of funds back to research. An important aspect of this activity is to protect the research results, for instance by patent applications. ETH Zurich files around 50-100 patents and computer programs a year.
Protecting an invention, a computer program, a trademark or design will be reviewed according to the following process.
