The ETH spin-offs BioVersys, InSphero and compliant concept were the winners of the "Heuberger Winterthur Jungunternehmerpreis". All three start up companies received the a prize money of 150'000 CHF each.
Venture 2010 has officially started! More than 350 VIPs, executives, politicians, coaches, investors and of course many young entrepreneurs attended the kickoff events in Zurich and Lausanne. At both events, representatives of ETHZ and EPFL as well as members of our Advisory Board talked about future areas of innovation. In addition, former winners shared their experiences. Mark Blum, COO of Optotune, encouraged students to start their own company, "even if you fail, which is the normal case, you gain a lot of valuable experience". And André Mercanzini, CTO of Aleva Neurotherapeutics, told young entrepreneurs to "start small, think big, move fast" and to "fail early, and fail often".
Not every top researcher is also a good salesman. ETH Zurich actively supports its scientists in marketing their inventions to industry. Special trade fairs and congresses, such as BIO 2009 in Atlanta or TechConnect 2009 in Houston, Texas, offer a very successful opportunity to present the latest ETH ideas.
Covagen (CH) and Roche (CH) have entered a collaboration agreement under which Covagen will use its protein engineering technology to isolate Fynomers – a novel class of protein-based drugs - binding to undisclosed targets provided by Roche.

The ETH Zurich Spin-off Optotune has won the «ZKB Pionierpreis Technopark». Dr. Manuel Aschwanden, Mark Blum and David Niederer were awarded for their world wide unique product: Optotune's tunable lenses.
GlycoVaxyn, an ETH Zurich spin-off, and a pioneer in the development of innovative conjugated vaccines, announced the successful closing of a CHF25 million (ca. US$22 million, €17 million) Series B financing. The round was led by Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners.
«Idea
Lab» is the program that is part of the Industrial Relations Program at ETH transfer. An "Idea Lab" took place with the global Building Technology Division of Siemens Schweiz AG together with several Professors of ETH Zurich from different disciplines.
ETH Zurich has had a record year for the number of companies founded, and has surpassed its own mark of the previous year: 23 spin-offs were established in 2008.

Researchers at ETH Zurich have broken the magic barrier of one million revolutions per minute in collaboration with motor manufacturer ATE and ball bearings manufacturer myonic. It is the highest rotational speed ever achieved by an electric drive system.
New book details economic impact of ETH Zurich spin-offs.
ETH Zurich spin-offs create more jobs, have higher survival rates, attract more funding and provide higher returns on equity than the average of all Swiss start-ups, a recent study reveals. The study looked at 130 ETH Zu-rich spin-offs from 1998 to 2007.
TechConnect Summit, the international trade fair for technology transfer agencies, corporations and investors, was held in Boston at the beginning of June. ETH transfer was also there and presented three innovations, which were offered for licensing.
On May 7 the 10 winners of Venture 2008 were announced at ETH Zurich. An expert jury composed of more than 100 entrepreneurs and investors had the challenging task to select the winners out of the 101 submitted business plans. Optotune came first, followed by NeMoDevices (2.), Celeroton (3.), Aleva Neurotherapeutics (4.) and kringlan composites (5.). The 6th rank is shared among 5 teams: Advanced Metal Technology, Biodiagnostik, HelvaLab, Preclin Ventures and Siltectra. The team DJOM KOSSAM was awarded a special prize. In the second phase participants prepare and submit their business plans. The
authors of the best plans will be invited to present them to the jury. In this
phase, the total prize money is CHF 125,000; the best presentation will be
awarded CHF 60,000. The Business Plan Award Event will take place on May 7, 2008. www.venture.ch
222 business ideas were submitted in the first phase of Venture 2008. Of the
25 teams nominated, 10 teams were each awarded CHF 2,500 for the best business
idea. Among the 10 winning teams, 4 teams were from ETH Zurich: Koaaba, NeMoDevices, Optotune and PikePharma GmbH. ETH life
